Almost three years ago, owners in a Florida oceanfront condominium building that collapsed with deadly consequences learned it would cost at least $9 million for major repairs, with their shared bill coming due July 1.
That estimate, from the Morabito Consultants engineering firm in October 2018, meant owners at Champlain Towers South were facing payments of anywhere from $80,000 for a one-bedroom unit to $300,000 or so for a penthouse.
One resident whose apartment was spared, Adalberto Aguero, had just taken out a loan to cover his $80,000 bill. ....

Myanmar's Covid-19 woes and cases surging away; eight more deaths reported

YANGON, June 26 (Xinhua/Reuters): Myanmar reported 783 new Covid-19 cases and eight more deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total infections to 152, 356 and the death toll to 3, 290, according to a release from the Health and Sports Ministry on Saturday night (June 26).
Over 2.7 million samples have been tested for Covid-19 in the country so far.
A total of 135, 050 patients have been discharged from hospitals after 271 more patients recovered on Saturday.
Meanwhile, a stay-at-home order, which will be in effect on Sunday, was imposed by the ministry in Lashio township of Shan State on Saturday as the township has recently seen a rise in daily Covid-19 cases. ....
