There is no doubt this coronavirus pandemic has stolen a lot from everyone, including loved ones, jobs and traditions. Finding happy moments amid a pandemic has been a unique challenge, but it is a challenge many around Connecticut have taken on by doing random acts of kindness.
At the very beginning of January 2020, the
World Health Organization announced a pneumonia-like sickness that had sickened dozens of people in Wuhan, China. That sickness would end up becoming what we now know as COVID-19. By mid-March, COVID-19 had spread across the world and WHO declared coronavirus a pandemic. March 7  marks a year since the first case of coronavirus was announced in Connecticut when a hospital employee tested positive for coronavirus. ....

James G. Brogan, 77, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Salem Regional Medical Center. He was born May 2, 1943 in Akron, son of the late Glenn L. and Martha B. (Tallmadge) Brogan.
James was a 1961 graduate of Suffield High School. He worked 35 years as a welder/fitter and eight years driving truck. James enjoyed farming and motorcycle riding-doing one tank trips. He enjoyed the outdoors, his family, and pets.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Charlene (Ewart) Brogan; daughter, Bobbie Jo (Robert) Roessler of Salem; two sons, Glenn A. Brogan of Myrtle Beach, SC and Scott (Kathy) Brogan of Garrettsville; four grandchildren, Christopher and wife Clara, Grace, Joshua and Korey and three great-grandchildren. ....

State COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Hits Milestone


LiveWell was the last facility in the state to receive its vaccinations. Lamont said it wasn t clear why LiveWell was the last.
COVID has hit nursing homes in the state especially hard with thousands of residents dying since the beginning of the pandemic.
Through extensive precautions, LiveWell said its facility had been virus-free until December when several cases popped up and were contained.
“Unfortunately this is a pernicious disease that is highly contagious,” said Maley Hunt, LiveWell chief operating officer.
Now, the state is finalizing who will be next in line for vaccination and it’s expected to include people age 75 and over, those in congregate settings and some essential frontline workers, such as teachers. ....

Suffield to rename bridge to honor late U.S. Navy sailor Dustin L. Doyon


SUFFIELD — The Board of Selectmen has decided to rename a local bridge in honor of U.S. Navy sailor Dustin L. Doyon, 26, a lifelong resident who died in 2017 in an accident while serving aboard the USS John S. McCain destroyer off the coast of Singapore.
The selectmen voted to rename the bridge after Doyon at their meeting last week.
Selectman Jerry Mahoney, who was particularly close with Doyon and his family, presented the motion and shared a few personal experiences and memories of Doyon.
