Study Shows Opioid Use among U.S. Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis Costs 14 Billion Dollars in Societal Costs
Although guidelines do not recommend use of opioids to manage pain for individuals with knee osteoarthritis, a recent study published early online in Arthritis Care & Research, an official journal of the American College of Rheumatology and the Association of Rheumatology Professionals, estimates that 858,000 Americans use opioids such as tramadol and oxycodone for their knee pain, equating to $14 billion in lifetime opioid-related societal costs, or nearly $0.5 billion annually.
A team led by Elena Losina, PhD, Robert W. Lovett Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, used a computer simulation to estimate the annual and lifetime contribution of opioids to knee osteoarthritis-related costs. The researchers show the direct medical cost of knee osteoarthritis treatment including opioids totals $7.45 billion or 53 ....

Large data volumes arise when testing highly automated vehicles. The new KIsSME project is aimed at reducing these data volumes to save storage capacity, power, and evaluation expenditure and, at the same time, at compressing data to enhance vehicle safety. Algorithms based on artificial intelligence (AI) select the data in the driving mode and sort them into scenario catalogs. Serian health office does inoculation drill

SERIAN: The Serian health office has carried out a vaccination simulation exercise in preparation for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme scheduled to start next week.
The exercise at the community hall here, about 61km from Kuching in Sarawak, involved medical personnel and relevant agencies such as the Civil Defence Force, Fire and Rescue Department and Rela.
Serian resident Tuah Suni said the simulation was conducted to test the vaccination process and identify any shortcomings for improvement.

SERIAN: A vaccination simulation has been carried out by the Serian health office in preparation for the national Covid-19 immunisation programme scheduled to start next week.
The exercise was conducted at the community hall here, about 61km from Kuching, involving medical personnel and relevant agencies, including the Civil Defence Force, Fire and Rescue Department and Rela.
