Body found in stream
A body was found in Raumanga Stream in central Whangārei yesterday. A member of the public called police just before 2pm to report a body floating face-down. It is believed the body, which was near a vessel and mooring poles at the rear of Hihiaua Cultural Centre on Herekino St, became visible as the water dropped. Acting Senior Sergeant Shane Turner, of Whangārei police, said the body had been removed and the site had been blessed by kaumatua. The man had yet to be identified. There was nothing to indicate any suspicious circumstances. A police investigation ....

IMF chief says 'confident' to distribute new SDR by mid-August - World

WASHINGTON International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has said that she is confident the IMF will distribute a new allocation of Special Drawing Rights (SDR) to member countries by mid-August.
It is a remarkable demonstration of multilateralism that the IMF membership has agreed to support a new SDR allocation of 650 billion US dollars, the largest in the history of the IMF, Georgieva said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua on Tuesday.
In comparison, in the midst of the global financial crisis, the membership allocated 250 billion dollars to help countries deal with the consequences of this crisis, she said. ....

A soldier will appear in court on Thursday with other suspects on public violence charges related to protest action that took place last Friday in Limpopo.

A 53-year-old member of the SA National Defence Force is among seven suspects who will appear on Thursday at the Namakgale magistrate s court in connection with public violence that erupted in Phalaborwa, Namakgale and Lulekane last Friday.
According to police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, Phalaborwa was almost deserted after the R71, R40 and other subsidiary roads were blocked by protesters using tree branches, burning tyres and rocks. ....
