Hunger strike by doctors in protest against Centre's mixopathy policy | Ranchi News

Ranchi/Jamshedpur: Members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in Jharkhand staged a one-day relay hunger strike on Sunday against the Union government’s policy of ‘mixopathy’.
The protest, which was part of a nationwide agitation by the IMA, saw participation of doctors from various district units of the IMA. The agitation came in the wake of a notification issued by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), a statutory body under the Ayush ministry, which stated that ayurveda doctors can perform select surgical procedures after taking a bridge course of six months.
Notably, the protesting doctors had last month boycotted OPD services for a day in both state-run and private hospitals as part of the agitation. ....

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], February 3 (ANI): Members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday held a protest in Thiruvananthapuram against the Central government s decision to allow practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine to perform surgeries.
IMA national president Dr Jayalal was also present at the event.
Over the last few months, doctors across the country have held similar protests against the notification by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) enabling Postgraduate Ayurveda Surgery students to study and practice modern medicine and surgical procedures.
In a letter in November last year, the IMA had written to the CCIM, which regulates the medical study and practice of ayurveda in the country, asking it to develop its own surgical disciplines and not claim the ....

Doctors said that on November 20, 2020, the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) issued a gazette notification amending the Indian Medicine Central Council (Postgraduate Ayurveda Education) Regulations, 2016, which allows postgraduate Ayurveda students to undergo training for 58 surgical procedures in general surgery, ENT, ophthalmology and dentistry and perform surgeries. The notification was misleading and the Centre should withdraw it in the larger interest of the public and dismantle the committees formed in the NITI Aayog,” they added. ....
