Few would assume that a town called ‘Boring’ would produce one of the most exciting sporting prospects in the world.
But take just one look at Olympic champion Ryan Crouser – a mighty and dynamic 201cm (6ft 7in) powerhouse – and it’s easy to see why the US shot putter from Oregon has long been tipped to break world records.
At the end of 2019, in the aftermath of a remarkable shot put final at the World Athletics Championships in Doha, Crouser sat at fifth place on the world all-time list, just 22 centimetres shy of the world record. ....

Tamberi takes Banskobystricka latka men's high jump title

Former world indoor champion Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy took the Banskobystrická latka title after defeating defending champion Luis Zayas of Cuba in Banská Bystrica in Slovakia.
Tamberi continued his strong start to the season, which saw him take victory on home soil in Ancona last weekend with a world leading jump of 2.32 metres.
On this occasion, Tamberi jumped faultlessly up to 2.31m, before twice failing at 2.33m and once at 2.35m, although by this point he had already done enough to win the competition.
Defending champion Zayas needed three attempts to get over both 2.28m and 2.31m, enough to give him second place. ....

The Banskobystrická latka is a World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver level meeting. Some of the Gold level meetings were unable to accommodate a men s high jump competition – one of the scoring disciplines for this year – due to Covid restrictions, so to allow for an extra scoring opportunity, the men’s high jump contest in Banska Bystrica will count towards the scoring in the Gold series.
