Filipino debaters emerge victorious in int'l debate tournament – Manila Bulletin

The WUDC, organized in 1981, is the world’s largest debating tournament and one of the largest annual international student events globally.
This year’s debate championship was hosted virtually by South Korea.
Dianne Ablay from the University of the Philippines Tacloban was named as the Public Speaking Grand champion, while Hans Wong of the De La Salle University won the English-as-a-second language (ESL) Best Speaker award.
Charlette Inao and Verse Abellaneda of the University of the Philippines Manila were hailed as Masters Grand champions.
Meanwhile, Luigi Alcañeses, David Africa, Mikko Vitug, and Ignacio Villareal from the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) were ranked as the 8th, 7th, 4th, and 3rd Best Open Speakers, respectively. ....

Christian Porter: How a few small words led Attorney-General to sue ABC, Louise Milligan

The ABC did not name Christian Porter in its story revealing a minister had allegedly raped a woman in the 1980s, but the Attorney General will argue in defamation action that the use of two words in the report narrowed down the field of supposed culprits enough for people to work out his identity.
Mr Porter, 50, and the Who s Who of lawyers representing him argue the national broadcaster gravely injured his reputation by referring to the accused man as a senior Morrison Government minister and Cabinet official. 
The Attorney General, who denies the rape allegation, said those criteria narrowed it down to just three men who were senior cabinet members and around the same age as the victim, who was 16 at the time of the alleged rape. ....
