More than 10,000 young people will connect and exchange ideas online at the first-ever International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Global Youth Summit, from 6 to 16 April. The outcomes of the Summit will be presented to the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Marseille, France, in September 2021, helping engage and empower the voice of youth in nature conservation around the world.
The Global Youth Summit will address topics including the relationship between people and nature, climate change, marine and freshwater conservation, technology and innovation, and rights, governance and social justice. The event will feature three high-level intergenerational dialogues, 60+ youth-led workshops, dozens of informal networking sessions, body awareness classes and a weekend film festival. ....

Two young Filipino women are breaking barriers for being recognized by the prestigious National Geographic Society for their respective initiatives in addressing some of the world’s most complex and pressing issues to date.
Youth advocate Josefa Tauli and farmer-entrepreneur Louise Mabulo were among the 24 young change makers around the globe who made it to the 2020 Young Explorer Program of the National Geographic Society.
Belonging to the Kankanaey-Ibaloi Igorot ethnic group in the Cordillera region, Tauli is a member of the Steering Committee of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network, a platform for youth participation in the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. ....

Maine student wins international environmental award from National Geographic
Amara Ifeji, 19, of Bangor was named one of 24 Young Explorers last week for her environmental work with Maine youths.

A 19-year-old youth advocate from Bangor has been named a National Geographic Young Explorer, an honor bestowed on 24 young environmentalists for their work on conservation, food insecurity, pollution and water access around the globe.
Soon, Amara Ifeji will meet virtually with honorees from New Zealand, Indonesia, Ireland, Nigeria and 11 other countries – all between 17 and 25 – who have already distinguished themselves with world-shaping contributions to environmental education and protection. Ifeji serves as a mentor to numerous young environmentalists across Maine in addition to doing her own work in environmental science and policy. ....
