The tiger population in Assam has increased to 200 in 2021 from 159 in 2018 while three of its Tiger reserves-Kaziranga, Manas, and Orang-have received the accreditation of the Global Conservation Assured/Tiger Standards (CA/TS), Minister for Environment and Forests Parimal Suklabaidya said on Thursday.
At present, there are 121 big cats in Kaziranga, 48 in Manas, 28 in Orang, and three in Nameri tiger reserves.

GUWAHATI: The tiger population has risen to 200 in Assam, the state forest department said on Global Tiger Day on Thursday even as three of the four tiger reserves in the state got the global Conservation Assured |Tiger Standards (CA|TS) recognition for good tiger conservation.
As per the All India Tiger estimate, 2018, Assam has a total population of 159 tigers, 104 in Kaziranga, 31 in Manas, 21 in Orang and 3 in Nameri and the number increased to 200 in 2021, a forest official said. Kaziranga has 121 tigers as per phase IV tiger monitoring in 2020 while Manas has 48 tigers. Orang and Nameri have 21 and 3 tigers respectively.

Manas, Kaziranga, and Orang (Assam), Satpura, Panna, and Kanha (Madhya Pradesh), Dudhwa (Uttar Pradesh), Pench (Maharashtra), Sunderbans (West Bengal), Valmiki Nagar (Bihar), Parambikulam (Kerala), Mudumalai and Annamalai (Tamil Nadu) and Bandipur (Karnataka) tiger reserves received the accreditation.

New Delhi [India], July 29 (ANI): On the occasion of International Tiger Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that India has achieved the target of doubling of tiger population four years ahead of schedule of the Saint Petersburg Declaration on Tiger Conservation.
In a series of tweets, PM Modi extended his greeting to the wildlife lovers, especially those who are passionate about tiger conservation on the occasion of International Tiger Day.
"On #InternationalTigerDay, greetings to wildlife lovers, especially those who are passionate about tiger conservation. Home to over 70 per cent of the tiger population globally, we reiterate our commitment to ensuring safe habitats for our tigers and nurturing tiger-friendly eco-systems," said PM Modi.
