Press Release: Viasat's Ka IFC approved for Challenger 300 series -Runway Girl

Bombardier and global communications company Viasat Inc. are pleased to announce regulatory approval for the installation and use of Viasat’s Ka-band in-flight connectivity (IFC) business aviation system on in-service Challenger 300 and Challenger 350 aircraft, for their fastest available download speeds in the super midsize segment.
This solution is also offered for new Challenger 350 business jets, further strengthening the aircraft’s winning combination of performance and cabin experience. Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) have been successfully received from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as well as from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
Viasat first announced it would bring enhanced cabin connectivity to Bombardier Challenger 300 and Challenger 350 business jets in July 2020. Business jet operators as well as manufacturers like the FAA’s Data Communications (Data Comm) system, which enables controllers to send departure clearances to pilots by text instead of by radio.
The FAA has deployed the capability for text messaging to 62 airport towers and is in the process of rolling it out to 20 air route traffic control centers (ARTCC) that manage high-altitude, enroute traffic. After outfitting three “key” ARTCCs Washington, Indianapolis and Kansas City the agency suspended deployment to the enroute centers in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. ....

Eight years since entering service with operators, the Gulfstream G280 remains at the forefront of business jets in terms of technology and performance.
Gulfstream G280 options range from $1 million to $3.5 million the costliest of which is the HUD/EVS combination of a Collins Head-up Guidance System with infrared imagery provided by a nose-mounted, cryogenically-cooled Elbit-Kollsman EVS camera. On Dec. 10, 2020, satellite communications provider Viasat announced the availability of its high-speed Ka-band inflight connectivity service on the G280. Reception requires equipping with Viasat’s Global Aero Terminal 5510 satcom antenna and hardware. The FAA has approved installation of the system, which Gulfstream now offers, by supplemental type certificate. ....

Viasat tells us that its Ka-band no speed limit bizav in-flight connectivity (IFC) service is now available on the Gulfstream G280.
Viasat removed internet speed limits delivered to G280 aircraft, which will enable passengers and crew an opportunity to maximize their home-like connectivity in-flight experiences with what is reportedly the fastest available business aviation IFC download speeds in this business jet segment.
