A badly injured surfer on a remote West Auckland beach was able to write the word HELP in the sand before he collapsed.
The man had been surfing alone at Karekare Beach on Wednesday when he lost his board and was swept into the rocks by large waves. ....

Chief judge Peter Young says Tom’s photo of a sunset surfer at Te Arai captured a beautiful moment in time – a stunning evening on one of the region’s best surfing beaches.
“It has great energy, a fresh perspective and is well composed,” Peter says.
Coming a close second was Warkworth’s Kayla Hunia, with her entry taken at Takatu Point, on the Tàwharanui Peninsula. ....

A pro surfer caught up in the same cocaine bust as a former NRL star has failed in a bid to have a court ban on him seeing his co-accused girlfriend lifted, despite a magistrate admitting it might seem cold-hearted .
Tate Robinson, 21, and his Instagram influencer girlfriend Mikayla Noakes, 20, were among seven people arrested last November as part of a police operation targeting a cross-border cocaine syndicate.

Former Gold Coast Titans star Michael Gordon was also arrested in raids on the Tweed Coast.
Robinson and Noakes were granted bail on strict conditions including that they have no contact with one another. ....
