The rupee depreciated 23 paise to 72.92 against the US dollar in opening trade on Wednesday amid a muted trend in the domestic equity market and strengthening American currency.
At the interbank forex market, the domestic unit opened at 72.90 against the US dollar, then lost further ground and touched 72.92, registering a fall of 23 paise over its previous close.
On Tuesday, the rupee had settled at 72.69 against the American currency. ....

Bogota, 24 Dec (Prensa Latina) Several bloody incidents mark the hours prior to Christmas festitivies in Colombia, where a former guerrilla fighter was assassinated and an indigenous leader was attacked on Thursday.
In a town of the Neiva municipality, department of Huila, the demobilized member of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), Messiah Pajoy Sabogal, aged 60, was assassinated , along with two individuals whose identities are unknown so far.
The three killings were denounced as a massacre and the police do not rule out that the assassins motive is related to Pajoy s membership in the dissolved guerrilla force, currently the Common Alternative Revolutionary Force. ....
