For many, Earth Month in April is a time to inspire awareness and focus on improvements to our environment. As a Northeast Ohio farmer, protecting the land and water where I farm is a year-round commitment that I take seriously.
Recently there have been concerns about the role Ohio’s agriculture community plays in protecting our environment, specifically as it relates to water quality. Ohio’s legislators and farmers have a long history of working together to identify workable solutions that protect the environment and address water challenges.
Additionally, Ohio’s agriculture, conservation, environmental and research communities recently came together to establish the Ohio Agriculture Conservation Initiative (OACI), which was formed to create a recognized farmer certification program. ....

Deadline to enroll for Ohio Agriculture Conservation Initiative Farmer Certification Program is March 31

The Ohio Agriculture Conservation Initiative (OACI) released a video to encourage farmers to sign up for the OACI Farmer Certification program through the mobile app to help increase adoption of best management practices and recognize farmers who demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.
Enrollment has been simplified for the OACI Farmer Certification Program, which will help farmers take conservation programs to the next level. Farmers participating in the H2Ohio program must be enrolled by March 31, 2021.
“Enrolling is easier than ever with the new streamlined account set up,” said Kris Swartz, northwest Ohio farmer and OACI chair. “Farmers can enroll using the mobile app or through our website when and where it’s most convenient. After enrolling, farmers will be eligible to become certified in 2021.” ....

The Ohio Agriculture Conservation Initiative (OACI) is a partnership between agriculture, conservation, environmental and research communities to recognize farmers for their dedication to advancing methods that improve water quality in Ohio and increasing the number of best management practices being implemented on farms.

Environmental sustainability is a core value for U.S. pork producers. We deeply care about the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the land that we farm. It’s critical that we preserve America’s beautiful natural resources for future generations.
Although sustainability has become a buzzword in recent years, pork producers have been stewards of the land well before it was cool. For more than five decades, U.S. pork producers have embraced advancements that have allowed them to do more with less. That’s why the National Pork Producers Council recently launched a new campaign, “Farming Today for Tomorrow,” to showcase U.S. hog farmers’ long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship and support for further reducing greenhouse gas emissions. ....
