Law Specialist to Lead Research in Risk Mitigation for Hemp Producers

Senior faculty specialist in the University of Maryland Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics Paul Goeringer is leading a team of researchers and Extension specialists in an analysis of risk management tools and the development of educational outreach materials for small and medium-sized farmers interested in transitioning to growing industrial hemp.
According to a national survey, risk management options for recently legalized hemp production, as well as market access, were among the main concerns for farmers and hemp stakeholders.
In light of this, Goeringerâs assembled team consisting of faculty from the University of Kentucky, the University of Tennessee, and Drake University in Iowa, were awarded nearly $500,000 through the USDAâs Agriculture and Food Research Initiative Competitive Grant Program to analyze available tools and develop standardized options for the farmers looking to add industrial hemp production into their rotations. ....

Amaravati, May 13 (IANS) Amid a grim scenario brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday released Rs 3,928 crore which was directly credited into the bank accounts of 52.38 lakh farmers across the state.

The Fonterra Shareholders Fund does not have voting rights in New Zealand s biggest business, but it does have influence, which is a form of control, says chairman Peter McBride.
The greater the size of the
fund, the greater the level of influence it can bring to bear on the co-operative s leadership.
Fonterra farmer-shareholders and unitholders had different ideas about risk and value, he said.

CSE to help set up 6000 FPOs
The Common Service Centre, a special purpose vehicle under the Ministry of Electronics and IT is planning to set up 6,000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). It has asked prospective candidates for the same.
CSE has promised to help submit the proposals to NABARD and SFAC, two govt agencies tasked with the assignment of help open FPOs. It bears recall that NCDC has also begun helping people to set up FPOs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed that farmers should have the storage facilities near their villages. He called for the improvement of the system of taking the produce from the fields to processing units and emphasized that hand holding of these units be done by the FPOs. ....
