GGRAsia – Mohegan given 1-year delay on Inspire Korea opening

The promoter of the Inspire Entertainment Resort, a project with a foreigner-only casino, in Incheon, South Korea, has been granted a one-year postponement on the first-phase opening, it said in a Wednesday email announcement.
GGRAsia got confirmation in January that U.S.-based tribal casino operator Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment had asked the country’s government for a delay to the “first half of 2023”.
A representative from South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism separately confirmed to GGRAsia on Thursday its Wednesday approval notice.
The delay comes against the background of the Covid-19 pandemic. Another casino resort scheme at Incheon – controlled by an entity called R&F Korea – near the country’s capital Seoul, was recently also given a one-year extension on the timing of its first-phase opening. ....

Mohegan Gets 1-Year Deadline Extension to Open Korean Casino

US tribal casino operator Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment was granted a one-year extension of its previous deadline to complete the construction of phase one of its planned integrated resort in South Korea.
It first emerged in January that the company had asked the nation’s government to give it the green light to push back the opening of the property to 2023.
Mohegan originally planned to open the hotel, casino, and entertainment complex in the second half of 2022, but hurdles of different nature forced it to revise the project’s timeline.
Reports surfaced in 2020 that the casino operator
faced difficulties to secure capital to complete the mega-scheme and that it had disagreements with its Korean development partners as they reportedly demanded all outstanding funds to be fully paid and further funding to be secured before construction work could resume. ....

The build up to a potential Nagasaki Integrated Resort (IR) bid is getting interesting. Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment have announced a partnership with Oshidori International Development, a local firm, to pursue a coveted casino bid. The casino operator announced the partnership in a January 27 press release.
The two companies emphasized their intention to create a “dynamic community for Nagasaki to become a premium travel destination and premier residential choice.”
Oshidori CEO and Chariman Alex Yemenidjian, formerly CEO of MGM Resorts, celebrated the partnership. “Through our joint bid, we aim to highlight the rich culture and diversity of the Nagasaki area, and look forward to the positive impact this project will have on the entire Kyushu region.” ....
