As the Month of the Military Child came to a close last week, the Nevada Department of Education (NDE or Department) presented two schools with the Purple Star School Award.
Robert O. Gibson Leadership Academy and Ernest A. Becker, Sr. Middle School in the Clark County School District have the honor of being the first-ever designated Purple Star Schools in Nevada. Both schools have shown a commitment to understanding and addressing the unique needs of military-connected students.
The Nevada Purple Star School Award is a designation provided to military-friendly schools that display a major commitment to serving military-connected students and families. The Purple Star certification lets military-connected families know that a school is dedicated to helping their child gain the educational skills necessary to graduate with the tools they need to build a home, a life, and a future. ....

Governor Signs Quality Of Life Measures Supporting Military Families

THE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham this week signed into law three initiatives that will improve the quality of life for military families and veterans as they move to New Mexico.
Each of the three bills – House Bill 120, Senate Bill 271 and Senate Bill 272 – were passed unanimously by both chambers.
“New Mexico recognizes the stress and challenges a military family faces due to frequent relocations” said Gov. Lujan Grisham. “We are fully committed to supporting our military installations and the families who serve.”
House Bill 120 improves on the benefits of House Bill 30 passed last session by adding critical occupations such as accounting and architects and expanding others like nursing and teaching. It also reduced the processing time requirement from 60 to 30 days and eliminated the requirement for a military spouse to produce burdensome documentation beyond a home license. ....

Alabama establishes program to recognize military-friendly K-12 schools > Maxwell Air Force Base > Display

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala.
Soon it will be easier for military parents assigned to Maxwell-Gunter AFB to identify schools that support their children’s needs before ever setting foot on base through the new Purple Star School Program. Last month, Alabama was the 13th state to pass legislation establishing a Purple Star Schools Program and Committee. According to the resolution, the program will recognize public K-12 schools that are especially committed to the successful transition and support of military students and their families.
“The Purple Star Schools Program shows Alabama’s continued support to military communities across the state,” said Lt. Gen. James Hecker, Air University commander and president. “We are thankful to the Military Stability Commission, who championed this K-12 recognition program to help military parents ....
