Uhrichsville and service department employee settle records case


UHRICHSVILLE The city and Council President Robert Cottrell have settled a lawsuit over public records brought by a city service department employee.
The Ohio Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the case at the request of the Kent attorney who represented Jeffrey D. Morris in the mandamus action. He had sought to have the state high court order Cottrell and the city to give him certain documents.
The case was resolved through mediation, according to Service Director Belle Everett. Drew Piersall of the Columbus law firm Zashin Rich LLC represented the city.
Morris and his counsel have agreed that all requested documents have been provided by the city, Everett wrote in an email message to The Times-Reporter. The city provided hundreds of pages of documents, photos and emails to Mr. Morris and his legal counsel. ....

 KEY ACTION  Auditor Julie Pearch announced that she is holding the Claymont Income Tax payment to Dennison.  At the Dec. 10 meeting, council voted to pay Dennison an agreed percentage of taxes from the Claymont agreement up to the end of 2020.   Auditor Pearch said she asked the State Auditor for an opinion and is waiting for his response. She also believes that making the payment “creates a liability to the City of Uhrichsville and her office.”
OTHER ACTION
Council voted to give the remainder of the CARES Act money to two local organizations. The amount of $12,942.52 will be split between the Twin City Christian Service Center, which is the local food pantry, and Claymont City Schools.   ....
