Artificial intelligence is helping pilots to learn from their mistakes through targeted teaching
Big data and artificial intelligence (AI) are helping FlightSafety International instructors provide more effective, targeted training – by detailed analysis of a pilot’s performance based on behaviours and actions sometimes invisible to an expert human eye. However, the benefits of the technology may not always be immediately clear to those doing the flying.
“One of the concerns is likely to be: ‘Why is a computer grading me?’,” says Chris Starr, senior product manager for FlightSmart®, an AI-based training tool developed by FlightSafety with IBM. “It’s not. FlightSmart is an enhancement. It gives the instructor an additional tool to help get the pilot to proficiency. The goal is not machine-based grading, but making the instructor even more effective.” ....

The US Air Force s Air Education and Training Command announced interim changes to height standards for career enlisted aviators.
The changes will make those positions available to more recruits entering the enlisted ranks, particularly women, without needing a waiver.
In keeping with their efforts to improve branch-wide diversity, the US Air Force (USAF) Air Education and Training Command (AETC) announced interim changes to their dated height standards for Career Enlisted Aviators (CEAs).
The updates come as the result of preliminary information gathered from an ongoing anthropometric study that the Air Force began last year. ....

National Museum USAF to Host New Space Exhibit
On January 28th, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force opened a new exhibit entitled SPACE: A Journey to Our Future. This interactive exhibit is designed to spark imaginations by igniting the desire for space exploration and discovery, and inspire new generations of explorers to dream of the possibilities that lie ahead.
Evergreen Exhibitions provided this exhibit, which will run through September 6th. Visitors will be able to experience past space exploration adventures as well as what our future destiny in space may look like. Highlights of the exhibit include touching actual rocks recovered from the lunar surface and indeed some from the red planet, Mars; exploring a Mars Base Camp while walking through a full-size habitat and work pod; taking a spin on a centrifuge powered like a bicycle; getting an up-close look at a wide range of artifacts from the space program; an ....
