Mansfield University president speaks on board vote to integrate schools | News, Sports, Jobs

“Focus on the opportunities for students,” said Dr. Charles Patterson, president of Mansfield University, commenting on the integration implementation plan approved by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors.
“This is about students. The whole plan is really student-focused and it’s meant to provide a greater range of academic programs and faculty expertise for an integrated institution beyond what a single institution like Mansfield would be able to provide by itself,” he said.
Under the plan, Patterson’s school will become part of the Northeast integrated university, which will also include Bloomsburg and Lock Haven University. A similar integration is planned for Edinboro, California and Clarion universities in the western part of the state. ....

EDINBORO, Pa. A Westfield Academy and Central School 2015 alumni has been selected to deliver the graduate address during the virtual spring commencement at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Darian Switzer, who was one of the “Top Ten” in her class at Westfield Academy and Central School, will deliver the student address on behalf of the Edinboro University Class of 2021. Switzer, the daughter of Scott and Muchelle Switzer of Westfield, will be awarded a Master of Arts Degree from Edinboro University in Managerial and Leadership Communication Studies. In 2019, Switzer graduated from Edinboro University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education with Cum Laude honors. Switzer has maintained a 4.0 GPA during her Masters Degree Program, and was on Edinboro’s Deans list during her undergraduate studies. ....

State-Owned University System Moves Closer To Consolidating Six Schools

“[We have] concerns about students being forced into hybrid courses, concerns about the economic impact on the communities in which those universities reside, and concerns about the cost versus savings of the consolidation plan as it was announced,” says Martin.
She says the plan is moving too fast, and may be ignoring student voices and the communities universities serve.
“The notion that there’s not going to be an economic impact is disingenuous because the impact is going to happen this year and next in those communities because of the massive job loss,” says Martin.
Enrollment at PASSHE universities has dropped since 2010 and 2011, but Martin says enrollment is now at the same level it was in 2000. ....
