Traffic bound for the Bridge of the Americas to Juárez will be rerouted starting Monday from Interstate 10 to U.S. 54, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
Juárez-bound commuters will be routed to U.S. 54 to access the ramp leading to the bridge better known as the
puente libre, or free bridge.
Traffic from I-10 will need to travel north on U.S. 54 and use the Pershing Drive turnaround to get on U.S. 54 southbound.
TxDOT said in a news release that the change in traffic control is in response to long backups which have delayed cross-town and even cross-country traffic on I-10 in El Paso in recent weeks.

Mention Rocky Neck in East Lyme, and most people envision summer weekends, when throngs pack the beach cheek-to-jowl, RVs and tents spread out over all 160 campsites, and late arrivals struggle to find a parking space or empty picnic table.
Take Exit 78 to I-84? Exit numbers to be changed on the Massachusetts Turnpike starting next week
Signs will be replaced during overnight shifts, expected to take about a month.
Exit 9, at Interstate 84, will become Exit 78, for example.
Massachusetts is coming into compliance with Federal Highway Administration guidelines that designate exits with the number of the closest mile marker.
Exit number changes are planned for all major highways in the state. Some have already been remarked, including Interstate 395. Work on Route 6 on Cape Cod also begins next week.
On some exits, a smaller sign with the old exit number will be in place for two years.
