A statue part of a series at Dow Park in Jamestown memorializing the local Underground Railroad movement appears to have been stolen. The piece is one of three at the park created by the late David Poulin titled “Underground Railroad Tableau.” ....

Goodell Introduces City School Speed Camera Bill | News, Sports, Jobs


School speed cameras could be on their way to the city of Jamestown.
Legislation (A.7224) has been introduced in the state Assembly by Assemblyman Andrew Goodell, R-Jamestown. Goodell drafted legislation different from the proposed language approved by the City Council last year, though Mayor Eddie Sundquist has been involved in the redrafting of the legislation. It will also request a home rule request before Goodell and state Sen. George Borrello, R-Sunset Bay, introduce the legislation.
Ironically, Goodell led the floor debate on A.6449, the legislation that implemented a school zone speed camera demonstration program in 2019. During that 2019 debate with Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes, D-Buffalo and now Assembly majority leader, Goodell raised several issues that factored into his suggested changes to the Jamestown legislation. ....

Ceremonial shovels have hit the dirt, which officially starts the construction of the new Riverwalk Community Skatepark.
On Thursday, city officials hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the new skatepark that will be located at 117 Fairmount Ave., Jamestown, near McCrea Point Park. City Breaks Ground on New Skatepark
City officials, funders, and community members broke ground on the future
skatepark in Jamestown Thursday. The poured concrete structure will be located between the
Chadakoin River and
Greater Jamestown Riverwalk at 117 Fairmount Avenue. Mayor
Eddie Sundquist said not every community has been able to break ground on a project like this in a middle of a pandemic,
“So the fact that we’re still working on behalf of our kids, our youth, here in the City of Jamestown to make sure we have a space where they can be the best they can be is so incredibly important.” ....

The Jamestown City Council discussed executing a $3 million grant for the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities for a $5 million water line replacement project in the city.
The Jamestown City Council will vote later this month to execute a $3 million grant for the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities.
During a council work session meeting Monday, members discussed a resolution to execute the grant agreement with the state Environmental Facilities Corporation for a $5 million water line replacement project in the city. In July 2020, the BPU approved a resolution to authorize the city to accept the $3 million state Clean Water Infrastructure Improvement Act grant and enter into an agreement to borrow $2 million from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. ....
