It s been revealed that Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), a swing-district Democrat who was elected in the 2018 blue wave, has a troubling connection to a diversity council in her district promoting Critical Race Theory (CRT).
As the Washington Free Beacon reported on Monday, Rep. Slotkin s eyes and ears local liaison for the district, Mona Shand, is listed as a Board Member at Large for the Livingston Diversity Council.
According to reporting from the Livingston Post in February 2019, when Shand was given the position:
Mona Shand of Brighton has joined the staff of U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly) as the congresswoman’s representative (or “eyes and ears”) in Livingston County. Shand will also represent Slotkin at various community events. ....

What Is Intersectionality? —This Is Why Feminism Is Still Failing So Many Women

Here’s something: Despite what your Instagram feed tells you, feminism is not candy-colored infographics on Equal Pay Day or wearing a “girlboss” T-shirt. It’s not women-only coworking spaces with cute merch and on-site cafés. It isn’t dreamy- looking ads showing women’s body hair or stickers that say “this pussy grabs back.” At least, it’s not only those things. Because while everything I just mentioned comes from a well-meaning place, it doesn’t advocate for women who can’t access the rarefied world of that pink-hued swag.
Feminism’s lack of inclusion isn’t new. Susan B. Anthony neglected to invite a single Black woman to her 1848 women’s rights convention. In the 1970s, white feminists largely ignored the barriers that BIPOC and LGBTQ+ women face. But in order for the feminist movement to really, truly succeed today, EVERY woman needs to feel heard and seen whether she’s a “girlboss” or not. I’m talking about people fr ....

While supporting Black creators and getting educated on Black history and anti-racism are things we all should be doing every month of the year, Black History Month is a great reminder to put even more time and energy into those pursuits. Instead of reading the same social justice Instagram graphics over and over again, you could give your time (and money!) to Black educators who have put together online classes covering everything from African history to modern-day anti-racism. ....

Why Wellness and Meditation Apps Need More Diverse Voices (Literally)

diverse voices on meditation apps
At this point, many people have turned to their phone for mindfulness instruction; and, given that the market for meditation and mindfulness apps is expected to more than double to about $342 million by 2029, more are sure to join their ranks in the coming years. But despite its loyal and growing consumer base and capital support, diverse voices on meditation apps are scarce. While many prominent apps feature women and people with non-American accents, voices belonging to Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) instructors are almost nonexistent on the top 10 most-downloaded apps on the Apple iTunes store. It s a fact that disenfranchises marginalized and minority populations, and in order to provide effective tools for healing and self care to these groups must change. ....
