Two MMDA traffic enforcers who extorted P1,000 get the axe

It was only last April 26 when MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos first summoned Edmon Belleca and Christian Malemit to his office after they were caught on video asking for P1,000 in exchange for the non-apprehension of the couple for violation of Republic Act (RA) 10913, otherwise known as Anti-Distracted Driving Act and Reckless Driving.
“Natapos na po ang imbestigasyon ng MMDA sa kaso ng dalawang enforcers na ito. Dahil sa bigat ng mga ebidensya laban sa kanila, sila po ay napatunayang guilty kaya’t tanggal na po sila sa kanilang tungkulin at hindi na maaaring makapag-serbisyo pang muli (The MMDA has completed its investigation on these two enforcers. Based on the strong evidence against them, they have been proven guilty and will be dismissed from the service with no possibility of returning),” Abalos said in a statement Monday, May 10. ....

BANGUED, Abra, May 3 (PIA) The Provincial Highway Patrol Group (HPG) accosted 30 motorcycles and seven motor vehicles due to various traffic rules violations during the One Time-Big Time (OTBT) Oplan Lambat Sibat Sasakyan operation last week.
Led by PMAJ Maria Alicia Valera, the team has been actively enforcing traffic laws for the welfare and safety of everyone especially the motoring public.
During the OTBT, the team held checkpoints in Brgy. Ubbog and in Brgy. Patucannay, the main entry points to the capital town of Bangued.
Among the violations were driving without license, no helmet, motorcycle without plate number, riders wearing slippers, motorcycles with no side mirrors, delinquent registrations and number coding. ....

Angry Abalos slaps alleged mulcting MMDA (traffic enforcers with 3-month preventive suspension

The two Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic enforcers who allegedly extorted P1,000 from a motorist-couple have now been placed under preventive suspension for 90 days.
MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos handed down the order on Monday, April 26, even as the two Traffic Discipline Office (TDO) members are being investigated for extortion, grave misconduct, and other offenses punishable by dismissal from the service.
Abalos served the notice of charge to traffic enforcers Edmon Belleca and Christian Malemit, who are permanent employees of the agency.
“Upon learning of the incident, I immediately ordered our TDO and Legal Department to conduct a thorough investigation. I am very angry with what they did, they have besmirched the name of the agency. However, administrative procedures require that they be given due process,” he said. ....

Pinoy drivers, riders continue to defy seatbelt, helmet laws — HPG – Manila Bulletin

This is what HPG personnel observed during the conduct of their nationwide One-Time, Big-Time operations since December 2 last year. The HPG has already conducted 11 major operations across the country, the latest was on February 15.
“Our data revealed prevailing trends of the most committed traffic law offenses, and as such we see a consistent failure of many motorists to either wear their seatbelts or use proper helmet,” said Tagum.
Almost 8,000 vehicles and motorcycles were impounded during the 11 operations and more than 55,000 citation tickets were issued that include violations of the seatbelt and helmet laws.
Based on the HPG data, a total of 7,621 motorcycle riders were apprehended for not using a helmet from December 2 to February 8 while a total of 8,667 drivers were also accosted for not using the seatbelts in the same period. ....
