A day of drinking to celebrate being named captain of his Yeppoon Swans Aussie Rules team ended badly for Jack James Bailey.
The 30-year-old pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on Thursday to high-range drink-driving.
The court heard that Bailey had attended a Yeppoon Swans open day where he was named captain, and a day of celebratory drinking ended with him trying to drive home in a mate’s car.
At 1.35am on April 17, police intercepted Bailey driving on Appleton Drive and after a random breath test, he returned a blood alcohol contentr reading of .172.
The court heard Bailey, an apprentice builder, was trying to drive just 3km to his residence and could have walked the distance. ....

The traditional Anzac Day clash between Brothers Kangaroos and Rockhampton Panthers will headline the opening round of the 2021 AFL Capricornia Frenchville Sports Club Premiership season.
After the competition was shortened last year due to COVID, the 2021 season returns to 15 rounds and a four-week finals series, culminating in the grand final on Saturday, September 4.
The senior men’s, senior women’s and youth competitions will all kick off on Saturday, April 24, with the Kangaroos and Panthers men and women facing off at Kele Park on Sunday, April 25.

Aspiring Central Queensland male and female AFL players from under 13 to under 17 have impressed the Gold Coast Suns with 57 selected in the clubs Academy squads.
Players from the Yeppoon Swans, Gladstone Suns, BITS Saints, Glenmore Bulls and Brothers Kangaroos featured in the selections.
The selections bode well for Central Queensland s future AFL stocks, with the region firmly on the radar of the league, providing a pathway for future national superstars.
AFL Capricornia took to social media to announce the squads, which was quickly shared by the clubs involved.
