Faculty Senate discusses resolution decisions, incoming senators Posted By: Features Editor May 5, 2021 Dionte Berry The final Faculty Senate meeting of the spring 2021 semester was held on Zoom on Tuesday, May 4. The meeting started by welcoming new senate members that will be serving for the 2021-22 academic year. After being welcomed by Faculty Senate President David Roach, the senate went on to confirm their returning senators as well as their outgoing senators. The senators that were not returning were presented with certificates of appreciation for the work they have done. “I am excited for those that have joined the faculty senate, and to the returning senators I am glad you are coming back for another tour of duty,” said Faculty Regent and Journalism Professor Melony Shemberger. “I look forward to working with you. To the leaving senators, thank you for all the work you have done.” ....
Town Hall talks fall 2021guidelines, tuition and COLA Posted By: News Editor April 15, 2021 Emery Wainscott ewainscott@murraystate.edu The annual University Town Hall took place virtually this year on Wednesday, April 14. President Bob Jackson outlined plans for the fall 2021 semester, detailed budget updates and how the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) will affect Murray State employees. COVID-19 Restrictions Jackson said the administration is planning for the fall 2021 semester to resemble the fall 2019 semester. “After Commencement on May 8, 2021, we will begin transitioning to normal operations while adhering to continued guidance from our state and local health officials, as well as the Centers for Disease Control,” Jackson said in an email to students on March 25. “We will make all adjustments to operations in a safe and healthy manner.” ....
Posted By: News Editor April 9, 2021 Emery Wainscott ewainscott@murraystate.edu The Animal Health Technology/Pre-Vet Club plans to memorialize Murray State student Sarah Townsend by building a recycled bench. The bench will be made out of recycled bottle caps. Once these are collected, the caps will be sent to Green Tree Plastics, where they will be sorted, weighed and cleaned before being melted down. Two students, junior Emmalee Storm and senior Kylee Harden, came up with the idea after some members of the Pre-Vet Club suggested different ways to memorialize Townsend. Storm said she volunteered to help Harden with the bench because they’ve both had experience with building recycled benches in high school. ....
