ALBION â Noble County 4-H honored its Class of 2021 Monday night at the Noble County Office Complex-South. Kathleen Peters was the big winner, being named one of two Tops in 4-H recipients as well as being one of two Farm Bureau award winners. The other Tops in 4-H winner was Justin Krider. Zoe Pfenning and Karly Kirkpatrick were members of the honor group. The other Farm Bureau winner was Mariah Maley. Those 4-H members honored Monday were: Allie Basinger, Green Township Aggies, 10-year member. Her parents are Gary and Leslie Basinger. Her projects were beef, rabbits and dairy beef. Her favorite 4-H membery was winning reserve grand champion dairy steer in 2019. She plans to attend the University of Saint Francis to obtain a degree as a radiology technician and to compete on its cross country and track teams. ....
Kelly Mitchell announced a contest celebrating National College Savings Plan Day on May 29. To enter the Faces of 529 Day Contest, participants must upload a photo of their beneficiary with a caption and complete the Faces of 529 Day Contest form at www.collegechoicedirect.com/529day by 11:59 p.m. May 29. One individual will be randomly selected from all eligible entries to win a $529 CollegeChoice 529 account deposit. Events • The University of Saint Francis will host a health sciences camp from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. June 8-9 for incoming eighth through 12th graders to encourage careers in the health care industry. It will be held at the Doermer Family Center for Health Science Education, 2701 Spring St. Cost is $50. Scholarships reducing the registration fee are available to those with financial needs. A total of 39 Shady Side Academy students in grades 8-12 won 71 awards in the 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards regional competition. The winners include 19 eighth graders from SSA Middle School and 20 students at SSA Senior School. Twelve students won Gold Keys to advance to the national competition, for which medalists will be announced March 17. Gold Key art winners were: freshman Benjamin Bischoff in Drawing & Illustration for Last Breath; junior Marnie McCormick in Ceramics & Glass for two works, Molten Bowl and A Bowl Made for Lemons; freshman Yuntong Pan in Painting for Rest; senior Melissa Riggins in Ceramics & Glass for Waterfall; and senior Xinru “Vita” Yang in Drawing & Illustration for three works: two self-portraits and Umbrella. ....
