JANESVILLE A stretch of the Ice Age Trail that is popular with runners, walkers and bicyclists could be the home of a new fitness project being launched by a group of local volunteers. One team from the Leadership Development Academy of Rock County is raising money to build an exercise course at the Lexington Drive entrance of the Ice Age Trail near Palmer Park. The group hopes to raise $15,000âenough to buy and install metal equipment for a 10-station stretching and exercise circuit that anyone who exercises on the popular section of the trail can use. Team member Emily Hopper said her six-member group decided to tackle the project to help encourage people to use local trails to stay fit in the post-COVID-19 era. ....
Print The retro-titled “Moxie,” based on the 2017 novel by Jennifer Mathieu, is a likable, well-performed and admirably inclusive, if not terribly deep, comedy about teen feminism. The film, directed by Amy Poehler from a script by Tamara Chestna and Dylan Meyer, should strike a chord with young women aware or becoming aware that they’re growing up in a system still flagrantly rigged against them more than 50 years after their grandmas began burning their bras. Review: Netflix s Moxie Means Well but Falls Flat I Love What Netflix s Moxie Was Trying to Do: I Just Don t Like How They Did It 13 Shares When Netflix announced they were adapting Moxie into a feature film, fans of Jennifer Mathieu s original novel were hype. I was excited, too. Even though I haven t read the book, I wanted to love Moxie, as it has all the elements I look for in a film: a fantastic soundtrack, filled with everything from Bikini Kill and The Linda Lindas to Tierra Whack and Princess Nokia; a stellar cast featuring Alycia Pascual-Peña, Nico Hiraga, Hadley Robinson, Josie Totah, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Josephine Langford, Amy Poehler, Ike Barinholtz; and more. Plus, it was Poehler s directorial debut, and I was very interested to see where her eye was as a director. Instead, what made people love the book seemed to fall flat when brought to life on screen. ....

The premise of Netflix s new teen drama Moxie of a present-day 11th-grader taking inspiration from her mom’s Riot Grrrl memorabilia to make her school more hospitable for girls through an anonymous feminist zine is at once wholly plausible and a transparent Gen X fantasy of its cultural relevance to Gen Z. Teenagers today have ready access to more female-forward content and analysis on issues from the relatively trivial to the supremely grave, via any number of publications and platforms than any of them could consume in a lifetime.
