Zambia : ERB waives off restrictions on Fuel Tanker Movement for a week to easy fuel shortages

The Energy Regulation Board -ERB- has granted fuel transporters a one-week waiver on the restriction movement of fuel tanks on the road.
In a statement to the media, ERB Manager Public Relations KWALI MFUNI says the waiver, to run from 6th to 13th April is aimed at ensuring that national fuel supply returns to normal in all parts of the country.
Ms. MFUNI adds that the waiver means a temporal suspension of aspects of the Zambian Standard on transportation of petroleum products which stipulates that Road Tank vehicles carrying petroleum products are only allowed movement during the daytime from 06

Marking reduces fuel smuggling - Report

Fuel marking has almost hit 100 per cent, according to a study by the Atlantic Council Global Energy Centre.
The study authored by Dr David Soud with support from Dr Ian Ralby and Rohini Ralby indicates that whereas the global petroleum downstream sector continues to face criminality and smuggling, Uganda has, through the Fuel Marking and Quality Monitoring Programme, achieved substantial success against adulteration, which has reduced from more than 29 per cent in 2008 to just 0.5 per cent.
The programme, which names and shames non-compliant petroleum product dealers has over the years compelled an improvement in fuel marking, a key standard essential in elimination of fuel dumping and smuggling. ....

17.55 B liters of fuel marked under Fuel Marking Program in 2020

More than 17 billion liters of fuel were marked in 2020 under the Fuel Marking Program, a drive to curb fuel smuggling in the country, the Bureau of Customs said.
A total of 17.55 billion liters of petroleum products from various fuel companies in the country were marked from Sept. 4, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2020.
According to the bureau, this is equivalent to P147.78 billion and P23.94 billion of duties and taxes collected by the Customs bureau and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
“For 2020 alone, 15.69 billion liters of fuel were marked equivalent to P109.36 billion and P21.81 billion duties and taxes collected by BoC and BIR,” the bureau said. ....
