Her dad played collegiately at Wake Forest and professionally in Germany. But, basketball wasn’t the focus for
Elizabeth Kitley until her sophomore year at Northwest Guilford High School in Greensboro, North Carolina. Instead, she thought her path to a college scholarship would be in softball or maybe even volleyball.
But as it became clear to her that those options might not be ideal, Kitley began to blossom on the basketball court.
Coming off a sophomore season at Virginia Tech in which she averaged 18.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, it looks like her future in hoops could be very bright. The 6-foot-5 center’s stock steadily has risen in the past four years to the point where she was one of 20 players invited to the USA Basketball Women’s AmeriCup Team trials. It is Kitley’s first USA Basketball experience. ....

Twenty of the nation’s top collegiate athletes, including 10 who have captured a combined 21 gold medals competing on past USA Basketball teams, have accepted invitations to attend the April 18-21, 2021 USA Basketball Women’s AmeriCup Team trials.
Invitations to the trials, which will be held at the University of South Carolina, were issued by the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee and USA Women’s Senior National Team Committee.
Due to COVID-19 precautions, no media or guests will be allowed to view trials sessions. USA Basketball will provide media with images and b-roll for non-commercial, editorial use on a daily basis. ....

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) Elissa Cunane scored a season-high 27 points with nine rebounds to help third-ranked North Carolina State beat Virginia Tech 68-55 in Friday s quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.
Jada Boyd added 13 points off the bench for the second-seeded Wolfpack (18-2), the reigning tournament champion.
The Hokies were one of two teams to beat the Wolfpack this season, and led the other regular-season meeting by 14 in the fourth quarter before N.C. State rallied to win. The 6-foot-5 Cunane missed both meetings due to COVID-19 protocols, but made 10 of 15 shots and 7 of 8 free throws in a big performance against 6-5 Hokies sophomore Elizabeth Kitley. ....
