Man sought in package thefts in the El Paso Country Club area

View Comments
Police detectives are trying to identify a man suspected in a string of thefts in the neighborhood of the El Paso Country Club.
The unidentified man is suspected of trying to break into a safe at the country club and stealing delivery packages from two homes in the area, Crime Stoppers of El Paso said.
About 5 p.m. on May 8, the man allegedly entered the offices of the El Paso Country Club through an unlocked door, Crime Stoppers stated. He then unsuccessfully attempted to break into the safe but left "considerable damage to the office."
El Paso police suspect that the same man is responsible for a pair of "porch pirate" delivery package thefts in the 4900 block of Olmos Street and the 600 block of Willow Glen Drive in The Willows neighborhood nearby.

UTEP scholarship Jackie Guadagnoli hopes to inspire: Adair Margo

Sixty years ago, a tennis player at Irvin High School named Jackie Guadagnoli inspired other students in a big way. A superb student and championship tennis player from humble beginnings, she won every tennis tournament from Arizona to Texas during the 1960s. In 1965, she won the National Jaycee Championship for girls 16 and under and ranked #4 in the United States. In 1966, she won first place in the State of Texas 4A High School Championships in girls doubles and was named “El Paso Athlete of the Year” the next year. She received a full scholarship to Mary Baldwin College in Virginia, finishing her interscholastic career by leading the UTEP women’s tennis team. After going professional, she served as the tennis pro at the El Paso Country Club until an injury prompted her to enroll at NMSU. She earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology to help other people.
