Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce congratulates Crazy Harry’s Greenhouse as the April 2021 Spotlight Business of the Month.
The business has been serving Randolph County for 43 years.
In October 1978, Harry Akers opened the first market where KFC is currently located. He started by hiring five employees and by Christmas, he had one.
Business was slow and something needed to change. So, in January of 1979, Harry Akers consulted his two friends that handled his advertising, Ray and Ronnie. Harry explained he needed to increase business and attract more people to his market. Their response to the dilemma? “You need something crazy!” A light bulb went off and Harry replied, “That’s it!” Just like that, Crazy Harry’s Greenhouse was born on Jan. 15, 1979. ....

ELKINS The Elkins-Randolph County Chamber hosted their Annual Awards this year virtually. The event, held Tuesday and sponsored by FirstEnergy, was a combination of live-feed with speakers and short video clips. With the theme “Celebrating Our COVID-19 Heroes,” the award presentations included their usual business-themed awards mixed with five special awards for individuals, businesses, and organizations who stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic. ....

Both of my grandmothers were great bakers growing up and it inspired me to open a from scratch bakery for the community of Elkins, which was something we didn’t have! We officially opened our doors last November in the middle of COVID-19, but despite those added challenges and protocols, Great Harvest is flourishing. ....

On Feb. 24, the Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce held the first installment of Distance Socially, Eat Locally. The event took place at 1863 Appalachian Bistro and was sponsored by Davis Trust Company.
ELKINS On Feb. 24, the Elkins- Randolph County Chamber of Commerce held the first installment of Distance Socially, Eat Locally. The event took place at 1863 Appalachian Bistro and was sponsored by Davis Trust Company. 68 meals were picked up curbside between 4 and 6 p.m.
The Distance Socially, Eat Locally event series was created by the Chamber to encourage the community to support locally-owned businesses during this unprecedented time. Members of the community were able to pre-order their meals through the Chamber and then pick them up curbside. The event served as a way to foster support for local businesses while offering a safe alternative to indoor dining. ....
