The Barbados Association of Guidance Counsellors is fully in agreement with students returning to the classroom.
President of the association Dr Patricia Welch firmly believes that even as the country continues to battle COVID-19, it is vital that students are allowed to interact with their teachers and friends in a face-to-face setting.
Her comments follow an eventful return to face-to-face classes. At least three schools have been closed because of positive COVID-19 cases among students.
Since the resumption of physical classes on May 2, the Princess Margaret Secondary School, Ellerslie Secondary and most recently Vauxhall Primary, have all been forced to temporarily close their doors. ....

Bostic: Full public measures activated as health authorities take charge of schools' COVID exposures

There is no outbreak of COVID-19 at the Princess Margaret Secondary School and no reason to panic.
So says Minister of Health and Wellnes Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic who this evening sought to quell fears that the respiratory illness was rampant at the St Philip institution as well as at the St George Primary School.
During a nationally-televised press conference Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kenneth George confirmed that health authorities were investigating exposures at the two schools.
He said while one student at Princess Margaret had tested positive, no positive cases had yet been identified at St George Primary. ....

Curfew announced amid probe into local COVID-19 spike

In a manner befitting the tumult, upheaval and pain that was 2020, Old Year’s Night was effectively cancelled after a spike in COVID-19 infections triggered new curfew restrictions and public health officials began rigorous testing and contact tracing to get to the root of the outbreak.
As thousands were making their final preparations for the festive weekend, details were emerging about 10 new cases, five of which were of nationals who were not linked to travellers.
“In other words, the five cases suggest that there is some local transmission,” declared Minister of Health and Wellness Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George said that of the five infected people between the ages of 18 and 43, three displayed minor symptoms of COVID-19. ....
