Mobile food vendors on Evanston beaches under consideration


After discussion with the Evanston Health and Human Services Department last night, City Council will vote in two weeks on whether to begin allowing mobile food vendors at city parks and beaches.
Currently, food trucks and other food vendors cannot operate within 100 feet of city vehicles unless given explicit permission by the city to do so. Past exceptions have primarily taken place during special lakefront events, including the Starlight Concert and Food Truck festival at Brummel Park. 
If the new ordinance passes, one pushcart from Wandering Cafe and two food trucks would be on the Evanston shoreline for the remainder of this summer. According to Ike Ogbo, director of health and human services, these are the only mobile food vendors currently licensed in Evanston.  ....

New mayor names panel to ‘reimagine’ public safety
Incoming Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss announced this afternoon that he’s appointing a 17-member Reimagining Public Safety Committee.

Incoming Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss announced this afternoon that he’s appointing a 17-member Reimagining Public Safety Committee.
Biss says the committee “will conduct a holistic, data-driven analysis of everything we do to provide for public safety and make community-informed recommendations in time to be incorporated into the 2022 City budget.”
He says the committee members “bring a broad variety of perspectives and experiences, and while I have no illusions that it will be easy (or necessary!) to establish a consensus on all issues, I’m confident that we’ll have significant and constructive discussions that will move our City forward.” ....

EVANSTON, IL A schedule of special events in Evanston this summer was approved by the Evanston City Council Monday. The list (see below) include traditional favorites like the Starlight Concert Series Movies in the Park and Bike the Ridge, as well as two new events organizers hope to debut this year.
But approval of some of the summer events like Northwestern University s commencement address, a concert series at Canal Shores and plans for food fests, charity walks and outdoor markets was conditional on changes to state rules issued in response to coronavirus pandemic. ....
