Community invited to 'Courageous Conversations: Why Black Lives Matter'


Santa Monica and surrounding Westside communities have grappled with issues pertaining to racial justice for decades. And local Black leaders feel the region cannot move forward without dialogue, so the public is invited to “Courageous Conversations: Why Black Lives Matter,” this Thursday at 6 p.m.
Tickets to Thursday’s event are free, but residents must register online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/courageous-conversations-why-black-lives-matter-tickets-135390674151 to receive a link to attend.

The Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and The Hoffman Estates (IL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated present the 3rd Annual Black History Month Virtual Short Film Festival. This 3-day event (Friday, February 5, 2021-Sunday, February 7, 2021) will showcase five short films to continue to spotlight bold, talented, and creative African American filmmakers.
The diverse voices of this year s filmmakers will span various themes: From a look into the complexities of relationships to a focus on grappling with the trials and tribulations of everyday life. The Short Film Festival promises to leave audiences eager to engage in spirited discussions about both the films and the inspiration behind the films. ....

Join Santa Monica Black Leaders For An Anti-Racism Conversation

Black leaders in Santa Monica invite the community to join a virtual anti-racism event this month. (Shutterstock)
SANTA MONICA, CA Community members are invited to join Black leaders in Santa Monica for an anti-racism virtual forum titled Courageous Conversations: Why Black Lives Matter.
The live conversation is planned for Jan. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. and the event will explore ways that community members can work together to advance anti-racism in Santa Monica.
Featured speakers at the panel discussion include Los Angeles Times columnist Erika D. Smith and author and political analyst Earl Ofari Hutchinson, the city announced.

The pair will discuss their experiences covering social justice issues and perspectives about how change can be made within communities, according to a news release.
