After Carolina Beach condominium fire, two bartending friends reflect


Both Callie Ryan and Chad Jeffrey say they can t imagine doing anything else. 
They both thrive on the social interactions that go along with being bartenders in a friendly, close-knit beach community. The friends and roommates both work at The Dive on N. Lake Park Blvd. in Carolina Beach and have a long history in the food and beverage business there. 
They are also survivors of the fire that destroyed their home, and many others, in the Paradise Cove community on April 2. 
Of the two, Ryan was the only one home. 
“I had just gotten home from having lunch with friends,” she said. “And then in 15 minutes the fire broke out. And then it seemed like in another 15, the building was burnt to the ground.”  ....

Carolina Beach spreads holiday joy with ‘Parking Meters on Parade’

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - After a year of planning, Carolina Beach unveiled their newest holiday activity, Parking Meters on Parade.
The timing couldn’t have been better, after the pandemic forced the town to call off its annual Christmas parade.
This December, businesses and families decorated 19 of the town’s parking meters. In the winter, parking is free and the meters are inactive, covered with blue bags.
“It’s so COVID friendly we were able to have citizens come out and decorate these parking meters that are normally just sitting there bagged and not looking so great,” said Carolina Beach Parks and Rec Director Eric Jelinski. “Seeing these unique parking meters.. it’s bringing joy to people.” ....
