Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman said Friday (April 9) that an autopsy has confirmed the identity of the man as 31-year Jeffrey Lee Bebber. He was a resident of the mobile home on Ervin Lane in Hiddenite that was destroyed by an early morning fire last Wednesday (April 7). An extensive investigation continues into the cause of the fire by the Alexander County Fire Marshall’s Office, the North Carolina Fire Marshall’s Office, State Bureau of Investigation, and Alexander County Sheriff’s Office. ....

Crews say a person has died after a fire tore through a mobile home early Wednesday morning in Hiddenite. A news release from Alexander County says the call was taken around 6 a.m. for a fire along Ervin Lane, initially for an explosion or fire. Crews with Hiddenite FD arrived to find the home engulfed in flames. The fire was put out, but county fire marshal Mark Earle confirmed the death. Earle also noted there was no evidence an explosion happened, but the home was a total loss. ....

Crews were dispatched to the Ervin Lane home in Hiddenite after receiving a call around 6 a.m. about an explosion or a fire. When the Hiddenite Fire Department arrived they found a mobile home fully engulfed by flames. Upon the fire being put out the Alexander County Fire Marshal Mark Earle said there was one death as a result of the fire.
