The Utah Avalanche Center says a 45-year-old snowboarder was killed Sunday after he was caught in an avalanche that he unintentionally triggered and was buried. The Salt Lake Tribune reported that the male snowboarder left Canyons Village in Park City via a back-country exit gate at the top of the 9990 lift to access Dutch Draw, He triggered the avalanche.

Backcountry Skier Killed in Mount Washington Avalanche – NECN

The body of a missing backcountry skier was found buried under 13 feet of snow in the Ammonoosuc Ravine at Mount Washington Wednesday night, according to rescue officials.
The skier, whose name is being withheld until family is notified, was reported missing by his friends Tuesday night after he didn t come home and wasn t answering phone calls.
After finding the skier s car in the snow-filled Ammonoosuc Ravine parking lot Wednesday morning, rescue officials hiked up into both the Ammonoosuc Ravine drainage and the Monroe Brook, despite potential avalanche danger.
The crew spent hours scouring both drainages until they received avalanche beacon signal around 4:30 p.m. They had to dig down approximately 13 feet of packed snow and debris before ultimately discovering the body of the missing skier. ....

Snowboarder rescued after avalanche on Mount Washington

A 19-year-old snowboarder has been transported to hospital Thursday after spending the night out in the elements on Mount Washington following a tumble in an avalanche.
From his description I would say that it was probably almost a size-two avalanche which is big enough to injure, bury or kill a person, said Comox Valley Search and Rescue member Cliff Umpleby.
Umpleby and fellow team member Troy Fogarty were onboard an RCMP helicopter looking for the snowboarder who was last seen Wednesday afternoon at the ski resort.
We managed to follow his tracks up the valley. It looks like he had been caught in a small avalanche during the evening and kind of got rolled in that and had wandered around for awhile, Umpleby told CTV News. ....
