It’s been another busy week on the farm here, between new calves and lambs being born I’ve not had a minute to myself. To be fair, that is something of a lie, for each night despite the wind or rain, despite the snow and lack of sunshine, I’ve been breaking the 5km radius . It’s not been physical travel, though, it’s been a journey of the mind.
Each evening of this wet and long winter I’ve been emigrating, sans passport, to the far-flung corners of the world. Last week I was in Western Australia with Tim Winton and this week I’ve been exploring the Vietnam War with Ken Burns. ....

Kildare pledges to read on Ireland Reads Day

Thousands of people in Kildare and all across Ireland have pledged to ‘squeeze in a read’ today, February 25 for Ireland Reads Day.
So far, over 600,000 minutes of reading have been pledged for the national reading day, organised by libraries nationwide as part of the Keep Well campaign.
Kildare County Council’s Kildare Libraries have hosted almost 20 online events throughout February in the build up to today’s Ireland Reads Day, encouraging the people of Kildare to squeeze in a read. From poetry readings, talks and book clubs with authors to song writing workshops and up skilling for all ages, all delivered online. ....

THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE have said they will “squeeze in a read” today, as part of Ireland Reads Day, with over 650,000 minutes of reading pledged so far.
The campaign has encouraged the Irish public to get stuck into a book, magazine or newspaper to help with their wellbeing during the Covid-19 pandemic.
People across the country are getting involved with the initiative, and the number of minutes pledged can be tracked live here. ....

Introduction
Good morning,
I would like to start this morning by acknowledging the extraordinarily hard work being done to suppress the COVID-19 curve for the third time. While still high, case numbers, hospitalisations and ICU numbers are coming down. Vaccines are being administered. Our perseverance is paying off as we begin another chapter in our fight against this deadly virus.
Announcements
Yesterday Government announced an extension of current Level 5 restrictions until the 5th of April.
The government also announced a safe return of in-school education and childcare services on a cautious and phased basis as set out in the revised plan for managing the virus – COVID-19 Resilience and Recovery 2021: The Path Ahead. ....
