COVID-19 exposures reported at Victoria West Elementary, Cedar Elementary

Island Health says it’s conducting contact tracing and will get in touch with anyone who might have been affected.
An exposure is when someone who tests positive for COVID was at the school during their infectious period.
Also new to the Island Health list of schools with COVID-19 exposures is Cedar Elementary in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District. The exposure was Monday or Wednesday.
Greater Victoria School District has had only a few COVID-19 exposures during the 2020-21 school year, including one in November at Sir James Douglas Elementary and one in January at Ecole Macaulay Elementary.
Board chair Jordan Watters said the district has been fortunate considering its size it’s made up of 47 schools and about 20,000 students. ....

In community food pantry, a way to help neighbours who need a hand

Boudreau’s neighbour, contractor Reece Tibbitts, built the structure, which is modeled after the free little libraries dotted around Victoria that invite residents to take a book and leave a book.
Boudreau is hoping people who have something to spare will leave non-perishable food items, while those in need will find some help filling their cupboards. Particularly useful are peanut or nut butters, canned fish, dried or canned beans, rice, pasta, oats, baby formula and baby food.
“It’s one of those funny things, you know, ideally, we wouldn’t actually need it,” she said. “So it’s kind of like I feel mixed about it. But the goal is really to bring community together to kind of bring about more awareness of food insecurity.” ....
