Harris fundraiser Hilary goes freelance

Just over three decades ago Hilary Machell came to Lancashire to go to university.
She had been brought up in Biggin Hill on the Kent/London border, but was smitten by the red rose county where she studied for a degree in Theatre Studies and English Literature at Lancaster University.
Today the county is still her home. She said: “My parents were both Londoners and my mother was from Sunderland, so I’ve a foot in the north! I came to Lancaster University in 1990 and I never left.”

Investigation after important feature of historic Keighley mill is destroyed

AN investigation has begun after an important part of a historically significant mill site was destroyed.

The mill was powered by water diverted from the River Worth through a series of sluices a goit.
But the building has been derelict for decades, and last year it was added to Save Britain’s Heritage’s “At Risk” register of historic and heritage buildings that face an uncertain future. ....
