WAPELLO With Fiscal Year 2022 budget development discussions set to begin in a few weeks, the Louisa County Board of Supervisors received some early heads-up on several department budget needs during its regular weekly meeting last Tuesday.
Topping that list was some preliminary information from Louisa County Mental Health and Disability Services Director Bobbie Wulf, who met with the board through a Zoom connection.
Wulf said the governing  board for the Southeast Iowa LINK regional mental health consortium recently met and was planning to hold a meeting with local area legislators later in the month to discuss four major mental health issues. ....

Washington Supervisors OK 2% raise, turn down proposed mask mandate

Although the Washington Board of Supervisors discussed the county Compensation Board recommendation of a 3% raise for elected officials, the supervisors on Tuesday, Dec. 15 tabled action to the Dec. 22 meeting. Prior to the vote, discussion ranged from a zero increase to 3%, noting that other area counties have gone from 3% to as high as 5.5%. Chairman Jack Seward, Jr. indicated that there will be a decision next week, allowing time of input from county departments and the public.
The board also discussed guidelines for department budgets, agreeing that operational budgets are set at zero increase, with the provision that additional funds can be allocated as needed. It is the same policy as last year. ....

WAPELLO A recommendation to provide Fiscal Year 2022 salary increases of 2 or 7% for Louisa County elected officials was approved Monday by the Louisa County Compensation Board.
Under the recommendation, which will be forwarded to the board of supervisors for action, the 7% increase would go to auditor Sandi Elliott, treasurer Vicki Frank, recorder Tammy Hayes and attorney Adam Parsons.
The 2% boost was recommended for supervisors Randy Griffin, Brad Quigley and Chris Ball; and sheriff Brad Turner.
The auditor, treasurer and recorder’s salaries have been set at the same amount for years and are currently at $55,386. Parsons’ current salary is $68,755, while the supervisors all earn $29,055. Turner’s current annual salary is $78,104. ....
