Marshalltown Community School District Superintendent Theron Schutte will receive an Alumni Achievement Award from Iowa State University for his success in his field of education administration.
Superintendent Theron Schutte of Marshalltown Community School District will receive an Alumni Achievement Award from the Iowa State University College of Human Sciences.
The award recognizes alumni for, “meritorious service and distinguished achievements” in their field. Schutte will accept the award Wednesday night at a virtual ceremony hosted by the Iowa State University Alumni Association.

Read Across Iowa Celebrations to Encourage Reading with Area Children

Read Across Iowa will launch March 1 and begin a month-long celebration to bring the joys of reading to area kids of all ages. Agriculturally themed Read Across Iowa events will be held across the state and will feature books and materials about agriculture that will appeal to all readers.
“Starting at birth, reading to children is an investment with a life-long return,” said Constance Beecher, an associate professor of education and extension specialist at Iowa State University. “Early reading and talking with children is essential to a strong start in life.”
Research shows that one of the strongest predictors of school success is reading to children and having books in the home, Beecher said. Children who read and listen to books hear a greater variety of words – up to 50% more – leading to a better vocabulary than those who watch media. AMES — Iowa State University announces scholarships awarded by the College of Human Sciences and its academic units to students for the 2020-21 academic year.
Paige Harberts, a Child, Adult, and Family Services major from Denver, received the Naheel Jeries Scholarship and the Helen Green Grieve Scholarship.
Grace Hoins, an Event Management major from Waverly, received the Lane Wells Human Sciences and the Marjorie McKinley Memorial Fund.
Hannah Johnson, a Family and Consumer Science Education and Studies major from Waverly, received the Smith/Anderson Family and Consumer Sciences Education Scholarship.
