Iowa Democratic Party Chair Mark Smith of Marshalltown said Wednesday was a difficult day for the nation.
“I’m sad that our country has come to such a dark moment, but unfortunately, it was not without warning,” Smith said. “In the four years since Donald Trump’s inauguration speech about ‘American carnage,’ Trump and the Republican Party have stoked the fires of anarchy, hate, and division. And today, as violent riots broke out at the Capitol, Trump encouraged the insurrection and assault on our democracy that stands in the way of a peaceful transition of power. ....
