The Observatory has been informed by Karapatan - the Alliance for the Advancement of People’s Rights - of the judicial harassment of Karapatan National Council member
Daisy ‘Jackie’ Valencia.
On September 25, 2020, the Regional Trial Court Branch 30 in Tagum, Davao del Norte Province, issued an arrest warrant for Daisy ‘Jackie’ Valencia. However, she was only recently made aware through a reliable sourceof the murder charges pressed against her. At the time of publication of this Urgent Appeal, Ms. Valencia had not received any formal notice from the Court. ....

Women who played a key role in organizing and leading peaceful pro-democracy protests in 2020 in Thailand faced frequent human rights violations aimed at delegitimizing their work and credibility and discouraging them from participating in the demonstrations, says a new report released today by the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders (an FIDH-OMCT partnership).
The report, titled “
Standing tall - Women human rights defenders at the forefront of Thailand’s pro-democracy protests,” is based on interviews conducted with 22 women human rights defenders (WHRD), both youth and adults, who peacefully protected and promoted fundamental human rights and freedoms in connection with the demonstrations. ....

The Observatory has been informed by the Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law (KIBHR) about the judicial harassment of the KIBHR and the International Legal Initiative (ILI Foundation), two FIDH member organisations working in Kazakhstan, over the alleged violations of financial reporting procedure.
On January 25, 2021, the district office of the Almaty City Department of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan ruled to fine and suspend the activities of the KIBHR and the ILI Foundation.
