Fincantieri kicks off SEA Defence activities

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has officially started its activities within the European SEA Defence project.
The project has been selected within the European Defense Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP 2019) and started last December.
The EDIDP, which paves the way for the European Defence Fund, focuses on strengthening the European defence technological and industrial base, as well as on increasing the EU’s autonomy and technological leadership.
The SEA Defence project is supported by participating EU Member States, led by the Netherlands Ministry of Defence.
The grant agreement worth a total of about EUR 14 million which finances the project was signed by the EC, marking an important step in EU naval cooperation. ....

The Netherlands-led consortium for European Defense Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP)-funded SEA Defence project announced its official start on Thursday.
The European Commission (EC) selected the SEA Defence project in June 2019. The EDIDP, which paves the way for the European Defence Fund, focuses on strengthening the European defence technological and industrial base, as well as on increasing the EU s autonomy and technological leadership.
The SEA Defence kick-off took place on December 14th and was attended by representatives of the consortium, of the EC and of the participating EU Member States. Earlier last week, the Grant Agreement, worth a total of €14.29M, was signed by the EC, marking an important step in EU naval cooperation. ....

COLOGNE, Germany The European Commission has awarded Estonia and the country’s robotics company Milrem a grant to lead the way on a standard architecture for military unmanned ground vehicles, the company announced.
The deal, worth close to $40 million and signed Dec. 11, formally kicks off a pan-European development for a new generation of battlefield ground robots. Named Integrated Modular Unmanned Ground System, or iMUGS, the project uses Milrem’s THeMIS vehicle as a reference platform for creating a “standardized European-wide ecosystem for aerial and ground platforms,” according to the company. ....

The Spanish company SATLANTIS MICROSATS signed in October a grant agreement with the European Commission within the first edition of the EDIDP Programme (European Defence Industrial Development Programme) through the project OPTISSE.
In it, SATLANTIS is leading a Consortium of five companies from five European countries: ColomboSky (Italy), Syrlinks (France), Astro- und Feinwerktechnik (Germany), Solaris Optics (Poland), plus Everis Aerospace and Defense (Spain) as associated partner. The Call for Proposal addressed innovative SMEs and required the support of the Ministries of Defence whose companies are represented in the Consortium. Therefore, all the Ministries will be involved in the project, acting as potential final users and generating the operational requirements. ....
