The European Medicines Verification Organisation (EMVP) has appointed Karol Wosinski as its new head of operations.
Woskinski joins the EMVO – a non-profit organisation tasked with overseeing the European Medicines Verification System (EMVS) designed to keep falsified medicines out of the EU supply chain – from laboratory testing specialist Eurofins, where he served as group process improvement programme manager.
After a transition period he will take over from Paul Mills, who has been serving as operations manager at EMVO on an interim basis.
Karol comes with a wealth of technical and technical management experience, said the EMVO in a statement.
He has demonstrated his skills across Europe: Poland, the UK and Belgium, where he has led projects towards digitalisation and agility [and] sees himself as an advocate of digital transformation . ....

Approval of COVID-19 vaccines are now coming swiftly, and the first candidates are now administered to the public in immunisation programmes across Europe, the US and other countries around the world.
Just this morning, Switzerland’s regulatory authority approved the Moderna vaccine, a few weeks after giving the go-ahead to Pfizer/BioNTech’s vaccine, under the brand name Comirnaty.
Both of these are regular marketing approvals, in contrast to the temporary or conditional supply permissions awarded by UK and EU regulators for the Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech shots, and by the UK for AstraZeneca’s AZD1222 candidate.
These developments clearly mark the long-awaited turning point in the fight against this pandemic, even though the roll-out of vaccinations will need to gather significant pace. ....

th December 2020, Swissmedic became the second regulator in Europe to approve Pfizer/BioNTech’s mRNA COVID-19 vaccine - the first vaccine developed in the western world, after the UK’s MHRA announcement on 2
nd December.
The decision by Switzerland’s regulatory authority marks an important milestone because, unlike the temporary supply permission given by the UK MHRA for an initial number of batches, the Swiss regulator has granted Pfizer/BioNTech’s vaccine, under the brand name Comirnaty, a regular marketing approval. The Swiss decision therefore constitutes the world s first approval following an ordinary marketing authorisation procedure. ....
