Prince Phillip, the husband to Queen Elizabeth II, spent more than seven decades supporting his wife in a role that both defined and constricted his life. Buckingham Palace announced his death April 9. He was 99. The royal family has visited the Thompson Okanagan numerous times throughout the years. In 1959, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh toured all provinces in Canada including B.C. The latest visit from the royal family was when William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, visited Kelowna in 2016. ....
Called the EV Maintenance Training Program, it will be offered at three additional colleges, allowing automotive technicians to upgrade their qualifications. This type of training is already underway in other parts of the province; the program was first offered in 2019 at the B.C. Institute of Technology in the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby. With this new infusion of cash – to the tune of $440,000 – the EV tech-training program will be extended to Okanagan College’s Kelowna campus, College of New Caledonia in Prince George, and Camosun College in suburban Victoria. “We’re supporting the growing popularity of EVs by helping auto technicians develop the skills they need to work on EVs in service centres across B.C.,” said Bruce Ralston, minister of energy, mines and low carbon innovation. Eligible technicians interested in the program should check each college’s web site for course details. Training is scheduled to begin this fall. ....
