OSAKA A woman living outside this west Japan city had funds seized in error from her bank account after she was mistaken for a Tennoji Ward resident with the same name and date of birth who is behind on her national health insurance premiums, the Osaka Municipal Government announced on Feb. 19.
The woman noticed that her savings account balance had fallen, and the issue came to light on Feb. 18 when she contacted the city government. They apologized to her, and on Feb. 19 the seizure of funds was reversed. ....

OSAKA While meals are nutritionally important and one of the few things COVID-19 patients quarantined at hotels should be able to look forward to, the quality of the offerings varies widely among facilities and regions in Japan.
Many people infected with the coronavirus and showing no or only mild symptoms spend about 10 tedious days at business hotels or other accommodation facilities instead of hospitals. As patients nationwide have been posting their quarantine meals on social media, differences among facilities and regions have emerged. ....

OSAKA The Osaka Prefectural Government announced on Jan. 31 that the monthly death toll from the coronavirus in the western Japan prefecture reached 347 the largest number in Japan after 11 more people were found to have died from the virus that day.
The monthly COVID-19 death toll for the prefecture has been hitting new highs for three consecutive months since November 2020, with the accumulated total of deaths reaching 926. Meanwhile, 214 people were newly confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus on Jan. 31, dipping below the 300-mark in terms of the daily tally for the first time in six days. ....

OSAKA A Mainichi Shimbun analysis of spiking COVID-19 deaths in Osaka Prefecture has revealed extremely high mortality risks to people aged 60-plus in the western Japan prefecture.
The Mainichi examined data related to the deaths, alongside the prefecture s own analysis and other information sources.
Osaka Prefecture s total COVID-19 deaths reached 690 on Jan. 12, near parity with metropolitan Tokyo s 691, though the Japanese capital s population is about 1.6 times larger. Monthly fatalities also jumped from 78 in November to 259 in December roughly 1.9 times the 138 recorded for Tokyo. ....
