Will Welsh pubs open inside in May?

Indoor hospitality in Wales should reopen alongside trade in England and Scotland next month, one industry body has suggested.
UKHospitality Cymru (UKHC) has pointed to low numbers of coronavirus cases in the country and a successful vaccination programme in Wales as evidence to bring forward the reopening of indoor trade.
More than half of people aged 40-49 have been jabbed and more than a quarter of those aged 30-39 have received a coronavirus vaccine dose, according to Public Health Wales. ....

A street food operator in Wales has launched a legal challenge against the Welsh Government s failure to set out a reopening date for indoor hospitality.
Matt Connolly, founder of Sticky Fingers Street Food in Cardiff, has hired law firm JMW Solicitors, which has launched a judicial review against the devolved power.
A formal notice letter has been sent with a deadline of 14 April for the Government to respond.
First Minister Mark Drakeford has been hesitant to provide a reopening date for indoor hospitality in Wales, but has suggested they could reopen in time for the Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May. ....

When will indoor pubs reopen in Wales?


A legal challenge has been launched against the Welsh Government over its lack of clarity on the reopening of indoor hospitality.
While Drakeford said it was the Welsh Government’s “ambition” for pubs to fully reopen before the end of May, he said the “fast moving and unpredictable” nature of the pandemic necessitated caution.
The Government will consider reopening indoor hospitality at the lockdown review cycle from Monday 17 May.
Operator of Cardiff’s Sticky Fingers Street Food restaurant Matt Connolly, has called for pubs to reopen alongside non-essential retail from 12 April, echoing a similar legal challenge in England.​
If the Welsh Government refuses to provide a reopening date, it should provide a robust explanation including evidence on the transmission risks linked to indoor hospitality, Connolly’s lawyers argue. ....
