Quit Order: Amotekun Arrests 37 Herders, 5,000 Cows in Ondo

Enforcing the quit order of the State Government to herdsmen to vacate the government forest reserves, the Commander of the Ondo State Security Network, Amotekun Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, Thursday said that no fewer than 37 herdsmen and 5, 000 cows had been arrested for disobeying the state directive.
The state governor, Mr Oluwatotimi Akeredolu, had last month, issued directive asking herdsmen to quit the government forest reserves and also banned movement of cattle along the highways and within the cities.
The government also banned night grazing and underaged herders from operating in the state while all herders were also asked to register with the state government to enable them operate legitimately. . ....

Some armed men suspected to be herdsmen have reportedly kidnapped a farmer, Solomon Akinmeji, and killed a member of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Daniel Adejuyigbe in Iju, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
While Akinmeji was kidnapped on his farm at Okeji farm settlement last Saturday, Adejuyigbe who was part of the search party organised to secure the release of Akinmeji was killed in the kidnappers’ den in the forest
It was gathered that Akinmeji was on his farm with some other workers when the hoodlums invaded his farm and abducted him while others escaped being abducted. ....

Men of the Ondo State Security Network (Amotekun) have arrested a 22-year-old woman, Seun Oladayo, in Ondo West Local Government Area of the state, over an attempt to sell her day-old baby to a pastor at the sum of N10,000.
The young lady who was arrested in Abejoye area of Ondo city confessed selling the baby to the pastor because she could not cater for the baby after the father of the baby disappeared after impregnating her.
According to her, the father of the baby disappeared the day she informed him about the pregnancy, saying things have been extremely difficult for her. ....

The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network, also known as Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, on Tuesday, said no fewer than 500 petitions have been received by the security outfit from the residents of the state in less than a year of formation.
Adeleye who disclosed this in Akure, Ondo State capital, while delivering the Ondo NUJ 2020 Press Week lecture, titled “Contemporary Security Challenges: Is Amotekun Corps the Way Forward” said most of the petitions are from farmers whose farmlands had been destroyed by herders and their cows. ....
